Alsop Joinery produce some of Christchurch’s finest custom timber products. They manufacture high quality windows & doors, kitchens & cabinets, stairs & balustrades. So when producing items of such high quality, good lighting is so important for precision, quality and safety.

Light Energy had the pleasure of replacing the old failing 400w Metal Halide lights with new 150W LED high bays. What makes this install special, is the integration of our daylight harvesting sensors. These sensors can reduce daily power consumption buy a further 25-50%, depending on the application.  This small but powerful sensor compensates for the natural light entering the building through skylights or windows and controls the light output via a dimmable power supply. In this application, installing the daylight harvesting sensors, has added additional $1500 to the annual savings. Bringing the total annual savings to just over $3500 per year.

Solar passive houses are amazing, as long as the sun is shining it is warm and comfortable in summer and winter. The polished concrete floors act as a massive thermal battery bank, absorbing the heat in the day time and only releasing it when the air temperature gets lower than the floor temperature. This means that in winter the house can stay at a comfortable temperature, it only cools off after two to three day of rainy weather (we have a log burner for these times). This house also converts the suns energy to electricity with our solar array and store it in large battery bank which we draw from at night or if we have rainy days. Our house is designed around energy efficiency and but also about extracting the most out of our solar array.

Halve the power consumption and double the light levels!

Great results for Kaiapoi Rugby Club! Doubled their light levels by replacing the old inefficient lights with new 200 Watt LED flood lights!

The Problem; the lads at Kaiapoi Rugby Club were really struggling to see during evening training, as the old lighting was poor and deteriorated.

The Solution; Replace the old inefficient flood lights with new LED lights, with narrow beam lenses to specifically light up areas of the training oval.

The Result; Dramatically improved training conditions, doubling the light level, half the power consumption and zero maintenance for many years to come.

The challenge–to replace 293 x 400W Metal Halide High Bays and 38 x 400W Flood Lights over a 5 week period. This was achieved through great planning and organisation, and with excellent communication with production staff. GIB was provided with a detailed installation plan that worked in with their production schedule and shut days; allowing Light Energy to work as efficiently as possible. A containerized base and workshop was set up on site; serving as a secure location for lighting stock, and allowing Light Energy to have its own space for lighting preparation and safety meetings. As part of safety preparation Light Energy implemented the ‘Site Safe Safety Plan’, which helped greatly with identifying the many risks that come with working around forklifts, moving machinery and working at heights. An environmental plan that covered waste management, recycling and chemical safety was also implemented. All cardboard was recycled, plastic bags were reused or listed on the Freecycle NZ web site for others to reuse, metal or aluminium was recycled and the old metal Halide lamps were disposed of using Interwaste’s services.

It was a pleasure working with the staff from Winstone Wallboards Christchurch. From start to finish it was easy to navigate their site and work with their Production and Engineering Staff.

Light Energy knew a lighting solution for 3R Group, a farm waste and paint waste recycling facility, had to be as Eco as possible. A lighting plan was developed to replace the 400W Metal Halide Low Bays with Light Energy’s 100W LED High Bay lights. Motion detection and daylight sensing was added to each light to maximize the potential for savings. As a result the site is brighter when needed; when the sun is out the lights dim down to compensate for the natural light levels, and when no one is around the motion sensors switch off the lights.

Our Customers have a beautiful warm north facing room that gets sun for most of the day. But their southern rooms and bathrooms are cold and damp. The accumulated heat in the north facing room almost makes it uncomfortably warm during the day.

The Solution; Install a home heat transfer system to circulate this beautiful warm air through the cold southern rooms.

The Result; by circulating the air through the house, the home heat transfer system has lifted southern room daytime temperatures from 16 to 22 degrees and reduced the heat build up, making it comfortable in the north facing room.

The Home Heat Transfer System includes a Honeywell Smart Controller that follows a schedule, temperature target and fan speed, so it really is set and forget.
